Schlesinger may seem like a natural comparison to my readers, but it may surprise you to hear that the folksy humor of Erma Bombeck was quite inspiring in my formative years. As a mighty red crayon, I thought the title of her book, “If Life is Like a Bowl of Cherries, What Am I Doing in the Pits?” was hilarious.
Her observations are timeless. To wit, “My theory on housework is, if the item doesn’t multiply, smell, catch fire, or block the refrigerator door, let it be. No one else cares. Why should you?”
Words to live by, my friends. Words to live by.
