An MRP emergency

Filed under: Grammar goddess,Overseen,Perilous punctuation — mighty red pen @ 5:58 pm

This just in from Nikita:

For MRP, from roommate Emily . . . who received this email today: “Is there anyone, who is going to be at the event this weekend, willing to help hand out flyers? There isn’t bags for the Summer event so we will have to hand them out personally.” And then she cried.

Emphasis added by MRP to show the extra commas after anyone and weekend, the lack of agreement between isn’t and bags (should be aren’t) and the superfluous capitalization of summer.

There, there, Emily. Don’t cry. MRP is here for you.

  1. People are even lazier in e-mail than in speech.

  2. Perhaps “Summer” is the actual name of the event.

  3. Molie’s right. It was the Summer event, the Donna Summer event. We had a blast. Molie danced up a storm during “She Works Hard (in Comprehensive Income Processing) for the (Batches of) Money.”
