Indiscreet versus indiscrete

Filed under: Word wars — mighty red pen @ 7:18 pm

Uncovered this little tidbit today in an article about how Robert Chambers, the “preppie killer,” was busted for selling drugs from his apartment:

Okay, here’s the deal. When you mean something that can’t be divided into individual parts, you want indiscrete. When you mean someone who has no shame whatsoever about whatever it is they are doing and pretty much don’t care who knows about it, then the word you want is indiscreet.

Which is also the word I would apply to the New York City police in this case, who used a battering ram to bust down the door.

  1. Wow. Learn something new every day. I always knew my degree was worthless.
