Did your mother marry Mr. Rogers?

A new British survey reveals the lines from movies mostly commonly used in everyday conversation. Topping the list was “I’ll be back,” as uttered by Schwarzenegger in “The Terminator.”

MRP has no idea why they even conducted this survey in the first place, but it gives me an excuse to share a couple of my own favorite movie lines. All of which are from “The Breakfast Club,” natch, and are actually quite handy in everyday conversations.

Bender: If he gets up, we’ll all get up, it’ll be anarchy!

Bender (again): Screws fall out all the time, the world’s an imperfect place.

Bender (sensing a trend here): Do you think I’d speak for you? I don’t even know your language!

What are some of yours?

  1. Weird, I quoted Bender in an email to you today before seeing this. Did you notice?

I wonder if they also did one for tv shows. I’m guessing “D’oh!” would top that list.

Some favorite quotes, although I don’t know how easy you could say some of them in everyday conversation.

“Shop smart shop S-Mart” -Army of Darkness

    “It’s only a flesh wound” & “I didn’t vote for you” – Monty Python

“I want my two dollars!” – Better off Dead

  2. Vernon: Don’t mess with the bull young man, you’ll get the horns.

    and my very favorite:

Vernon: What if your home, what if your family, what if your dope was on fire?
Bender: Impossible, sir. Its in Johnson’s underwear.

  3. Oh, I totally forgot:

Brian: Obviously she’s crazy if she’s screwing a shrink.
Alison: Have you ever done it?
    Claire: I don’t even have a psychiatrist.

  4. Molie, I did notice that! We were so in synch.

I’ve never had call to say “It’s only a flesh wound” in daily conversation myself, but I have used “I’m not dead yet!” on occassion.

  5. Office Space is an endless source of everyday lines. “Printer jam? Why does it say printer jam when there is no paper jam?”
“PC load letter? WTF does that mean?” “Sounds like somebody’s got a case of the Mondays.” “Missing work? I can’t say I’m missing it Bob!” And so on.

  6. Cookiezim, Office Space is an great quote source. I use the paper jam quote often. We have a printer that flashes “pap jam’ when it is low or out of paper.

I use “somebody’s got a case of the Mondays” seldomly because I don’t want to get my ass kicked.😉

  7. I find “Could be worse–could be raining” from “Young Frankenstein” to be useful quite often.

  8. These are great guys, keep ’em coming! I’m up to my eyeballs in “Fiddler on the Roof” chez MRP which doesn’t really lend itself to any notable quotables . . .
