If you’re not already familiar with the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, where entrants compete to write the worst opening line ever, check out some of the winning entries. The contest is so named for Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the man who evidently gave us such pearls as, “It was a dark and stormy night,” “the pen is mightier than the sword,” “the great unwashed,” and “the almighty dollar.”
