So anyone been following the transformation of Court TV to truTV?

That’s right. The programming won’t be reality television. It’ll be actuality television. More real than real, evidently. Truer than tru. In an AP article, a truTV exec explains without any irony whatsoever:

“Reality has a connotation of not being real, of being phony,” said Marc Juris, executive vice president and general manager of truTV. “We felt that because [our programming] was real, we couldn’t call it reality.”

I think that more or less speaks for itself, don’t you?

  1. Do you mean, all this time, CourtTV was reality television? Mind…BLOWN. Good to know Nancy Grace isn’t real. And Tru? Doesn’t that sound like a weird Goth girl from high school?

  2. And by “isn’t real” I had been under the assumption that CourtTV was something along the lines of a news and docu channel.

  3. I hadn’t realized we’d come so far as to have a distinction between reality television and reality reality television — but by George, I think he might have something there! From the mouths of corporate execs…

  4. It’s kind of unreal, isn’t it?
