Flying the friendly skies

US Airways is now charging $25 for passengers’ second* checked bag. Saw this little tidbit in the FAQs about their new policy:

What if I’m bringing a lap child?

Unless the infant has a ticketed seat, the second checked bag fee applies.

Quaint term lap child aside, here’s my question: So if the infant doesn’t have a ticketed seat, you have to check it and pay 25 bucks?

*******

*If you think this means second and subsequent bags, think again. Bags 3-9 are an additional $100 each. Happy fine print reading!

  1. They left out the “his car seat that you’re dragging along on your trip” line, I guess.

Though sometimes I’ve wished I could check the kid as baggage!

  2. I haven’t had the joy of flying with the little ones yet, but seeing how quickly just driving 10 minutes down the road can get old, I can only imagine . . .

  3. They’re not so horrible when they’re lap children (and presumably checkable).

It’s when they’re about 8–but by then, they probably exceed the weight allowance for checked baggage, or something.
