MRP has a pair of awards to give out. Drumroll, please!

The It’s Only Funny When Elvis Does It award goes to well, Elvis Presley, for his song “A Little Less Conversation”:

A little less conversation, a little more action please
All this aggravation ain’t satisfactioning me
A little more bite and a little less bark
A little less fight and a little more spark
Close your mouth and open up your heart and baby satisfy me
Satisfy me baby

Anyone else making up words would not be satisfactioning, I mean, satisfying.

The Best Use of the Subjunctive in a Pop Song award goes to Beyonce, for her song “If I Were a Boy”:

If I were a boy
Even just for a day
I’d roll outta bed in the morning
And throw on what I wanted then go
If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I swear I’d be a better man.
If I were a boy
I would turn off my phone
Tell everyone it’s broken
So they’d think that I was sleepin’ alone

Well done, Beyonce, for resisting the urge to say If I was a boy!

  1. if i were beyonce, i would certainly use the correct subjunctive. hopefully the example has sunk into young peoples’ minds (the main target audience), even just subconsciously.
