The point is . . . it’s big

Hat tip to Molie, who shared this little tidbit:

So here was MRP’s question: to hyphenate or not to hyphenate? Is it a “big-ass chain” or a “big ass chain” (and if the latter, what IS that, please?).

This line of questioning did eventually lead to the point that, although the chain is pretty impressive, it’s actually a “big-ass [or big ass] pendant” we’re looking at here.

  1. I say hyphenate…because if not, technically he should be wearing it around the back and a bit lower. In which case it might be less likely to cause “Big Back Pain.” But probably not.

  2. These “it’s actually a big-ass pendant” lines are just the sort of thing that gets me in trouble with the missus. But yes, I would say hyphenate.

  3. Definitely hyphenate, and only between “big” and “ass”, but where would you place the hyphen on that T-shirt without spoiling the shape – or the bad-ass tone?

  4. The owner of the Big Ass Chain, hip hopper “T-pain”, does apparently employ hyphens nominally.

Word is that the pictured item set T-pain back $410K.
