Time to get vaccine against regular winter typos

Filed under: Spellbound,Word wars — mighty red pen @ 6:56 pm

Spotted this little tidbit the other day:

vaccine

Okay, so here’s the deal. Vaccined, despite the fact that a Google search for it turns up more than 60,000 entries, does not appear to be an actual word. This headline would more correctly read Time to get vaccinated against regular winter flu or Time to get vaccine against regular winter flu.

Just out of curiosity, since this was an AP story, I checked out whether it was AP that made this error or just Boston.com going off the grid on this one. Turns out that it was the latter—the original AP headline was Time to get vaccine against regular winter flu—but whether it was a typo or some creative tweaking of the headline, hard to know.

  1. There’s been some creative tweaking of the byline, too: She spells her first name Lauran, not Lauren.
